Docear4Word 1.0 RC1 available for registered users

Docear4Word is ready to release but before we make it available for public download, we would like to publish another test version for our users. We have fixed several bugs, and added the feature to select a BibTeX file. By default, Docear4Word used the BibTeX file that is specified in Docear but you can specify any other BibTeX file you want. We also enhanced the field mapping but we cannot guarantee that everything is perfect. If you are missing some information in your bibliography (that are available in the BibTeX file), please let us know. But be aware that the reason might be the citation style – not all citation styles do show all fields. So, before you report some missing information, please test several citation styles and if they all don’t show a certain piece of information – well, than probably it’s a bug of Docear4Word.

For those, who would like to use several BibTeX databases, there is a “secret” option which we might include into the GUI later. In the registry, open HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Docear4Word. Create a key called “AllowPerDocumentDatabases”, and give it the value “1”. Turning it on will show the Choose Database button on the Add Reference form. If you select a citation from a non-default database, it is saved in the document properties. When loading a document, if that document property is present AND AllowPerDocumentDatabases=1 AND the file can be loaded then it gets used for that document only (otherwise as per the Settings). User can switch off the setting at any time and can manually remove the Document Property if needs be.

To try Docear4Word, register if you don’t already have an account, log-in, download Docear4Word, unzip the file, run setup.exe, follow the instructions, start MS-Word and check your “References” or “Add-Ins” ribbon. If you need more instructions, read our previous post on using Docear4Word.

Please let us know any problems you are experiencing (don’t forget to tell us your Windows and MS-Word version e.g. Windows 7 64Bit; Office 2010; …) and language of your software (German, English, …). If no serious bugs are found, we will publish the final Docear4Word with detailed instructions in a week or so.
