2 Open Positions for Spinning out a Business Start-Up (Recommendations-as-a-Service): 1 x Business Manager (Admin; Marketing; …) + 1 x Machine Learning / Software Engineer

We are seeking to hire one business manager, administrator, or marketing expert as the future CEO and one machine learning engineer, software engineer or software architect as the future CTO for our business start-up Darwin & Goliath. The positions are placed for around 12 months at Trinity College Dublin, fully funded by Enterprise Ireland (between €48,996 and €57,571 per annum) and in case of a successful spin-out, the two persons shall become CEO and CTO respectively with a notable amount of equity in the company.

Darwin & Goliath is a recommender-system as-a-service with a unique technology based on the research of Prof. Joeran Beel. We envision Darwin & Goliath to be the market leader in recommendations-as-a-service and tailored automated machine learning and algorithm selection solutions. We had inquiries already from major companies showing interest in piloting the existing prototype.

The short-term role of the future CEO will be to take care of all business-related aspects including shaping the product vision and strategy, growing the team, writing a business plan and acquiring more pilot partners and eventually acquiring paying customers and seed funding. We are looking for a person that ideally has a proven track record of successfully growing early-stage business start-ups into world-leading IT companies. However, we would also consider graduates that can demonstrate an extremely high passion for business start-ups. In the long-run, the CEO shall focus less on the operational business but more on ensuring the long-term success of the business.

The role of the future CTO will be, in the short-run, to continue the development of the current prototype, and supervise volunteers and students who participate in the development. As such, the person needs excellent skills in Python, and ideally web services & REST APIs, (automated) machine learning (autoML) and recommender system libraries (e.g. scikit-learn and H2O.ai) as well as front-end development (JavaScript, CSS & HTML), Web Technologies, MySQL and Linux administration. In the long run, the CTO will grow into a management position to ensure that a team of engineers at Darwin & Goliath develops at the highest standards and with the latest technologies. The ideal candidate would have several years of industry experience.
