As part of his research semester, Prof. Beel visited Prof. Min Zhang at Tsinghua University.
Professor Min Zhang is a professor in the Department of Computer Science at Tsinghua University and an influential researcher in information retrieval and recommender systems. She serves as the Editor-in-Chief of ACM Transactions on Information Systems (ACM TOIS) and is a member of the ACM Recommender Systems Steering Committee. Her work has significantly shaped the development of novel algorithms in personalized recommendation and web search, and she is recognized for her leadership in academic communities, often organizing top-tier conferences and workshops in the areas of data mining and machine learning. Through her contributions, she has advanced the understanding of user behavior and the optimization of recommendation systems on large-scale platforms.
Prof. Beel and Prof. Zhang collaborated on several topics, including automated and sustainable recommender systems. They also addressed current challenges in academic publishing and potential solutions, with Prof. Zhang serving as the Editor-in-Chief of ACM Transactions on Information Systems and Prof. Beel as an editorial member and Information Director of ACM Transactions on Recommender Systems. Additionally, they initiated discussions on student exchange programs to facilitate academic exchanges between the University of Siegen and Tsinghua University. Later during the visit, PhD students Lukas Wegmeth and Tobias Vente from the University of Siegen also joined the discussions and stayed for a few weeks at Tsinghua University.
