Prof. Joeran Beel visited Prof. Li Chen at Baptist University Hong Kong (HKBU) as part of his research semester. During his visit, Prof. Beel delivered a seminar on sustainable recommender systems, attended the HKBU-NVIDIA Joint Symposium 2025, and collaborated with Prof. Chen on the future development of the ACM Transactions on Recommender Systems (ACM TORS), where he serves as Information Director and Associate Editor, and Prof. Chen as Editor-in-Chief.

The HKBU-NVIDIA Joint Symposium 2025, co-hosted by Prof. Chen, focused on advancements in Art-Tech and Health-Tech, exploring AI applications in creative industries and healthcare. The symposium, co-organized by HKBU and NVIDIA, featured presentations from researchers in academia and industry on topics such as generative AI, neuromodulation, medical AI, and explainable AI models. Keynote presentations included “Leveraging 30 Years of Clinical Data and AI Solutions” by Dennis Lee (Hong Kong Hospital Authority), “Intelligent Neuromodulation with Edge Computing” by Prof. Shouyan Wang (Fudan University), and “Bridging the Interpretability Gap for Medical AI Models” by Prof. Yunpeng Cai (Chinese Academy of Sciences). Other research presentations addressed AI-based medical diagnostics, liver cancer prediction, and multimodal AI systems.

The visit strengthened collaborations between HKBU and the University of Siegen, particularly in sustainable AI, experimental methodology in recommender systems, and interdisciplinary applications of AI. The exchange contributed to ongoing efforts to improve efficiency in AI-powered recommendations while addressing their environmental and methodological challenges.
